Download Hotaru CMS 1.4.2

Requirements

Hotaru CMS has been tested using PHP 5.2.5 ~ 5.3.2 and MySQL 5.0~

Instructions

1. Download hotaru-1-4-2.zip file attached to this post.
2. Download the Bookmarking Plugin Pack (http://forums.hotarucms.org/showthread.php?79-Quick-Start-Plugin-Pack) (for new users)
3. Read Installing Hotaru (http://docs.hotarucms.org/index.php/Installing_Hotaru_CMS) or Upgrading Hotaru (http://docs.hotarucms.org/index.php/Upgrading_Hotaru_CMS).
4. Look through Getting Started with Hotaru CMS (http://docs.hotarucms.org/index.php/Getting_Started).

Plugins and Themes

You can download additional plugins from the Plugin Downloads (http://forums.hotarucms.org/forumdisplay.php?f=18) forum and themes from the Theme Downloads (http://forums.hotarucms.org/forumdisplay.php?34-Theme-Downloads) forum.

Thanks Nick for your effort and the newer version of Hotaru.

I haven’t faced special :) problems with an upgrading process, however I have a one suggestion concerning it. I think that a warning notice written in red “WARNING: You must delete the install folder or someone else could run the install script and wipe everything!” which is presented during step two of the upgrading/installing process should have been moved into the step number three. It is premature in this place. For less experienced users or those a bit absent-minded at the moment (like me in this case ;- yeah I know it was silly….:rolleyes:) this could results in doing this in this very moment and corrupting the whole installation.

If this ides is unwise, sorry and please ignore it.

The second thing is the question about translation of Hotaru. Are there any serious changes in 1.4.2 version which demand immediate correction of the (in my case…) Polish files for Hotaru?

Hi Hobbis, yes, you are right about that warning. It should be moved to step 3.

Some language items were removed, but I don't think any new ones were added. So you shouldn't need to update your Polish translation.

It is strange indeed, as the procedure is always the same. You have to download the zipped file from here (http://forums.hotarucms.org/showthread.php?1281-Download-Hotaru-CMS-1.4.2&p=8192&viewfull=1#post8192), then you should unzipped the file and all that stuff upload to your server. I checked this link again and everything went well, so the problem must be somwhere else.

At this stage it's looking unlikely, but that shouldn't really be surprising. Total donations to the project since July 2009 come to just $230, from 10 contributors, and there have been very few themes and plugins donated to the community beyond what the developers created themselves. This isn't a charity, it's an open source project. People are expected to contribute, and that has not happened.

Nick and the community were the reason that I switched to Hotaru. I'm bummed that there hasn't been much interaction and contributions from members to justify further development, but I wholeheartedly understand the situation.

At least the latest version of Hotaru is without any major bugs or issues. I know that with pligg, there were serious reasons for constantly needing new releases. I can use the existing version of Hotaru to literally build dozens of unique social websites and site types, so I personally don't need a new release.

For my own contribution, I'm trying to get in touch with the crew over at tal.ki to develop a forum plugin for Hotaru. I hope several Hotaru users will at least take a look at the code if I'm granted access, and help develop it with me if possible.

just arrive to this CMS, I think I followed all instructions indicated but once I try to start I receive a php screen sying that:

I thougt installation file crete the tables but ofter this run system is asking me for a table not created, please, any help to continue installing this.

I dont want to speak for nick, (far from it) and seeing as this post is quite old apologies for digging it up. Hotaru is a beautiful project, Nick and the other guys on here have created a robust and easy to use solution for others to enjoy. I have a site type in mind and if my walter mittyesque dreams come true I would love to contribute some $$$ towards it. Now dusting off my server and getting to work on a new project. I stand by my word if it makes any cash I will make a donation (dependant on how much it makes of course!)

Nick + others work on Hotaru is outstanding and I for one (despite lacking in contributions etc) will miss the platform being updated, but onwards and upwards, from this day forth lets make Hotaru shine with some beautiful and insightful websites. So it begins.

Sure. I have no plans to do anymore work on Hotaru. Others are welcome to continue without me, or fork the project elsewhere.

What do you feel has to be done do make this project continue ? How come the project like Wordpress, Joomla, Drupla are still sustaining....What do you feel is missing in Hotaru.....
