Hotaru 0.8.1 follows hot on the heels of our first beta release (http://hotarucms.org/showthread.php?243-Hotaru-CMS-0-8-Beta-Released).

The core files have had a small, but important update. To be specific, the loginCheck function in /libs/UserBase.php has been changed to allow for the new RPX plugin, and any other plugin that needs to override the login process.

Accompanying this release are updates to the following plugins:

Users 0.9 - modified to work with the new RPX plugin
Tags 1.2 - a minor change so you can optionally show tags without their wrapper div
Submit 1.5 - a new plugin hook in /submit/templates/submit_edit_post.php
Comments 1.1 - a fix for a bug that closed the comment form unintentionally
Vote Simple 1.0 - a fix for problems promoting stories and a new option for un-voting back to the Latest page.
User Manager 0.4 - a fix for not being able to change roles

Those plugins are all in the newly updated Social Bookmarking Plugin Suite (http://hotarucms.org/showthread.php?79-Social-Bookmarking-Plugin-Suite-1-9), or you can get them separately from the Plugin Downloads (http://hotarucms.org/forumdisplay.php?18-Plugin-Downloads)forum.

And best of all, an RPX plugin (http://hotarucms.org/showthread.php?262-RPX-0-1) so that your users can register and login with 3rd party providers such as Twitter, Facebook and Google.

Note to theme designers: submit_edit_post.php, account.php, login.php and register.php have been modified. We recommend WinMerge (http://winmerge.org/) for comparing changes.

Please remember, Hotaru is still an amateur beta project, so you will quite likely uncover bugs or unexpected behavior. If you do, please report them in the How-To and Troubleshooting (http://hotarucms.org/forumdisplay.php?3-How-To-and-Troubleshooting) forum so we can squash all the glitches and make Hotaru a solid and secure platform to build amazing websites on.

@LincolnHawks - Thanks :) I sleep from 3am-8am and then steal a couple of hours shut-eye in the afternoon. I'm starting to dream Hotaru, which is probably a sign I need to take a break!

!! Updated Users, Submit and Admin Email plugins !!

After yesterday's 0.8.1 release, I noticed a small glitch in the Submit plugin - I hadn't updated the version number! That meant that other plugins that required Submit 1.5 couldn't be installed because the version number at the top of submit.php was still 1.4.

So please make sure you have Social Bookmarking Plugin Suite 2.0 (http://hotarucms.org/showthread.php?79-Social-Bookmarking-Plugin-Suite-2-0), or Submit 1.6 (http://hotarucms.org/showthread.php?54-Submit-1-6), Users 1.0 (http://hotarucms.org/showthread.php?77-Users-1-0) and Admin Email 0.2 (http://hotarucms.org/showthread.php?228-Admin-Email-0-2). They also fix a small issue with default user settings.

One nice new feature introduced through the combination of Submit 1.6 and Users 1.0 is the ability for users to decide whether links on the Top Posts page, Latest page, etc. should open the source url or your site's post url. I'll say that again for those of you coming from Pligg or SWCMS, the users can choose where links point to and also whether they should be opened in a new tab or not.

I downloaded & installed it last night, and everything went without a hitch (once I read the readme :). Also, the Social Bookmarking Plugin Suite installed fine, but I haven't set everything up yet. It's amazing how much more straightforward that was than when I was trying to build a Drigg-based Drupal site. Good to see that there is an actively developed social news CMS other than the current biggies. I'll keep ya posted on what I find as I play around with it more.
