View Full Version : In title news how can I remove automatically blog/site name?

This is the problem:
when some users submit news, in the title will get automatically added also the name of the blog/site, and the title news results something like that:
400% C3PO figure hits the nerd trifecta | DVICE
For SEO improvements and for prevent too many duplicated titles, the news title, will be:
400% C3PO figure hits the nerd trifecta
Any idea on how remove automatically the name of blog/site, when fetching title news from submit step?
hotaru fetches the value between the <title></title> in the header of a page you submit, for example if you submit the url "http://www.google.com" it will fetch "Google"
Back to the problem
the only way to solve this is make a filter for each site you want to remove the added name of
but i requires some work, the other option is to do it all manually which is (also) a lot of work for a long time
but as far as i know there is not a function build in hotaru to do what you want

the manual way is a really boring andd infinite job. I'm coming from Pligg and there's the same problem... everything edit post, delete title and save... in some italian site, I see that this function is working, but I can't figure out how they do. I'll do some research on this, and if anyone has some ideas, will be appreciate!
in some italian site, I see that this function is working
They probably strip everything after a separator. Take a look at this:
yeah but how can you tell which site uses a seperator? and what kind of seperator?
i think its better to leave it than a create the chance to remove a title part that was actually used

If you want to do some test purpose, try to post something in http://oknotizie.virgilio.it/ or http://www.technotizie.it all site submitted are without title of blog/site
what content system do they use?

I think they use a custom script, nothing open source or similar
