What's Keeping Hotaru 1.1.2?

Rate this Entry
The next version of Hotaru is on it's way... actually, it's been sitting on the development branch for a few days now and is already running on the two demos and my own site, JapanSoc.

I'm just holding off moving it to the SVN trunk and zipping it up because I'm a bit busy in my non-Hotaru life (yes, I do have one!) and think it would be wise to let it run on a couple of live sites for testing before letting everyone have it.

It's not such a big deal though, because all the cool stuff is done with plugins anyway. The updates in Hotaru 1.1.2 are pretty mundane unless you're a developer. Perhaps the best features from a user's point of view are the additions to caching that will give you access to the new User Rankings plugin and a way to override the maintenance page as suggested here.

I'll try to make it available by the weekend.

Great news again Nick! With such frequent releases would it be possible to see the changes/diffs made for the files of a particular release. Something on these lines i.e. For example, "for release 1.x.x, view Changeset XYZ. "

I know it might be a lot of hard work, but what really nags users is closing my site frequently in order to keep up with the latest hotaru releases.

but... but... I have been linking to changesets

    - [CHANGED] htaccess_default includes .xml and .gs in the list of keywords that prevent redirection (see changes) (hat tip to obzerver)
    - [CHANGED] some language updates in main_language.php (see changes)

I'm afraid I have my limits. I'm not aware of any other open source CMS that links to all their core changes since they are already publicly viewable on the SVN. If you are editing core files, then it is your responsibility to follow the SVN for changes and unreasonable to ask that they be pointed out for you. Hotaru CMS has been designed so you don't have to edit core files.

My gut feeling is that you are not referring to core files at all. You think of Hotaru and its plugins as one big package, but it's not. This blog post is about the next version of Hotaru, not the next version of SB Base, Users, Comments, etc. They are not part of Hotaru CMS. They are just optional extras.
