    Default WampServer and .htaccess

    [Moved from Documentation. Nick]

Thanks for posting this Nick. I'm sure it'll help people as they start editing their .htaccess file. Too bad I have a different problem with my local install.

I've installed Hotaru in WAMP's "WWW" folder, in a subfolder called "hotaru" (all lowercase). I copied and pasted the working code from example 2, and get a 500 internal server error when I have the .htaccess file in my hotaru root (I'll send you the full error message if you'd like). I'm running:

    -Apache 2.2.11
    -PHP 5.2.6 (like you)
    -MySQL 5.1.36

It's possible that I may be running newer versions of those modules than you. Also, I remember reading about Apache's URL_rewrite module a while ago. Don't know if your URL rewriting scheme even uses that functionality, but if so, maybe I don't have that (or another required) service turned on in my Apache settings. If you have any ideas, I'm down to try, but I've tried just about everything I can think of at this point.

Oh, and when I remove the .htaccess file and have friendly URLs set to "false", the formatting of my Admin and front end sites go berserk. On the admin side, the right box where you change settings takes up the whole width of the page, and the left nav bar appears at the bottom of the page below it. The front end has some of the same formatting as it did before, but many of the elements are positioned way out of whack on the screen. I have some screenshots of the "new" front and back end that I can send you if you're interested.

Like I told you before, I have lots of odd errors when doing this stuff that nobody else seems to have. That's why I want my testing environment to be as identical to yours as possible so errors can hopefully be traced to either Hotaru or non-Hotaru factors.

That must be it. I have rewrite_module checked in my Apache modules.

WOW, I'm retarted. I looked through the list for "URL_Rewrite" module instead of "rewrite_module". Activated that, and it works almost flawlessly!!

The only thing I'm finding on my install (which may work fine for you) is that:

-Category pages appear to have no stories in them, nor do they have the "all/upcoming...." block at the top, yet the home page does and it works fine.
-Trying to view a story/scoop (Drigg's term for the posted content) that is posted to a category returns a blank block where it should show the story (i.e. no story nor the "all/upcoming...." block).

I'm so excited that it's working this much, and maybe there's just a simple tweak that I need to make to get it 100%.
